Learning & Insights at the BCRC listens to and documents the diverse experiences of English-speaking Black communities (ESBC) in Greater Montreal and Quebec—then shares resources and research that support awareness, education, and community action.

Black in Quebec


An in-depth research study into the English-speaking Black Community in Quebec. The project supports Black community organizations with credible, accurate data they can cite in their work.

Ongoing Projects

Current collaborations explore climate action, mental health, intergenerational connection, and youth experiences across Quebec.

EnGen Study

In collaboration with the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (School of Public Health), EnGen aims to develop and test a workshop model bringing generations together to create climate change solutions while supporting mental health and community well-being.

  • Investigate links between climate change, (dis)connection, and well-being
  • Co-design a workshop prototype using human-centered design
  • Pilot and evaluate with mixed methods

PJCN: Portrait of Youth

In collaboration with the Observatory of Black Communities of Quebec, this project supports better understanding of Black youth diversity in Quebec and strengthens societal integration.

  • Build a sociodemographic portrait of Black youth
  • Assess experiences across culture, economy, education, justice, and health & social services
  • Explore citizenship, networks, and identity-building
  • Foster active civic engagement
